Group Flights

Group flight fares are calculated individually, based on the size of the group. As a rule, the price is formed from the average cost of available seats in the selected class. As a result, the total cost is usually lower than buying the same tickets separately.

Most airlines open group bookings up to a year before departure. The earlier the seats are reserved, the better the price is likely to be. If the trip is known in advance, it is better not to delay the booking.

Sometimes the final list of passengers is not known until shortly before departure. If the number of passengers is clear, the required seat block can still be purchased in advance. The final passenger details can usually be provided about ten days before the flight.

Payment for group tickets is often split into two parts. The first is an advance payment made when the seats are booked; it is usually non-refundable if the trip is cancelled. The second part is paid later, with exact deadlines depending on the airline. If the booking has to be cancelled, the refundable part may be returned according to the airline rules.

Children’s tickets are usually cheaper than adult tickets. When booking a group flight, it is important to specify how many passengers of each age category will be travelling. It is also worth noting that many airlines count two children as one adult. Accordingly, the minimum size of such a group increases. There are three age categories:

1. Infants — up to two years old. They may travel without a separate seat or in their own seat. In the second case, a ticket from the next category will have to be purchased.
2. Children — from two to twelve years old.
3. Adults — over twelve years old. This is the base fare from which possible discounts for different passenger categories are calculated.

A less obvious advantage of group fares is that one adult can accompany up to fifteen children. With individual tickets, the limit is no more than three minors per adult.
